Hawkesbury Skills Inc.
People

As a community organisation we try to find a place for all. We are guided by our objectives and mission.

What happens here is because of the varied input from the community of people that use our facilities. These people assist, or gain assistance, in many different ways and often add value to the greater community.

“To derive pleasure from life, we need to place value on it” - Goethe

Volunteers
We welcome volunteers. Please talk to us about how you may be involved. Look through our web page and it may give you some ideas on how to be involved.

Main volunteering activities have been around recycling bicycles, gardening, nursery work and training. Some volunteers have come with their own community development ideas and have just needed some support to realise them.

Unemployed
This organisation has 15 years experience skilling, supervising and working alongside unemployed people. Programs include Skillshare, Work for the Dole, Community Support Programme, Personal Support Programme and Job Club.

Through Work for the Dole, we help the wider community. Projects have varied from computer and information technology to environmental protection and sustainability.

Mental Health
People with poor mental health come to our nursery and garden and help us grow plants. Many have taken the time to smell the flowers, grow some vegetables, and to use the place as a social opportunity or as a vocational training forum.

The resources at our Bosworth St centre are also used to build up skills through positive activities.

Disabled
Groups of people with intellectual disability that attend day activity programs come to our nursery and garden. The programs bring carer support. Some people take on a vegetable plot. Some have used the kitchen to take their produce from garden fork to table fork. Others have found the nursery activities valuable.

Men
The workshop is the home of the Hawkesbury Men's Shed Inc. The men have activities of bicycle recycling, woodwork, metalwork and small engine repair. It provides a great social forum while doing activities that benefit themselves and the community.

The men that work here are happy to share their knowledge and welcome all. Activity days are on Mondays and Wednesdays and the committee meet monthly.
